We’re a full week into 2023. How many of you have dumped your New Year’s Resolutions? Not me! I’m still excited about my 2023 goals. Several things to look forward to this year, including my first ever cruise. I set sail in 34 days and I’m super excited. I’ve also really turned a corner in my recovery from my foot surgery. The foot is looking and feeling good. I’m able to get out and about more independently now and it’s done wonders for my mental health.

So I said in my last post that I was thinking about doing some monthly challenges this year. 30-day challenges are great for a couple of reasons. Sometimes the things we really need to do are not the things we really want to do. 30 days is a finite amount of time and it’s not a crazy long time period so your odds of being able to complete the task are good, even if you lack some will power. 30 days is also a long enough time period to create a habit.

January’s Monthly Challenge

I know, I know, I’ve already lost a week but that’s okay. My January goal is to declutter and organize. This goal will help towards my resolution of creating a cute and functional office space in my condo. It might even help on the finance side a bit if I can find some things to sell in the process. My cruise cabin is paid for but I still have the Cheers package to pay off…lol.

The goal is to get rid of 31 items this month in my house. I was going to get crazy and double that goal but I’ve already lost 7 days and the youngest man-child has started the process of looking for a house to buy so he’ll probably be taking quite a few things with him when he leaves.

I think I’m almost at the point where I can return all my borrowed surgery devices as well so that will make a huge difference in my tiny condo. I would love to upgrade my condo but I don’t expect to do that until 2024 but decluttering will also help me get ready for that process. It’s extra important when you’re in a small space to maximize the square footage, or at least the appearance of the square footage.

Future Challenges

Do you have any suggestions for future monthly challenges for me? Here are a couple I’m thinking about so far:

  • No diet coke
  • No bread
  • Gym workout every day
  • Wake up at 6am
  • No TV-yeah, the way the series run at sporadic times will make this tough, lol
  • Read 4 non-fiction books

What’s your thoughts on 30-day challenges? My son recently did a challenge where he did 100 push-ups a day and he tried to beat his time each day doing it. Not sure if that one will make my list. I might be able to do 100 push-ups in a month…
