Super busy week prepping for vacation. I didn’t want to miss a blogging week though so it’s time for another edition of my favorite things. A couple of these are items I received from my generous boys for Christmas this year. The fact that I’ve already deemed them “favorites” should tell you something.
I consider myself a simple person. For the most part, I could care less about what brand I’m wearing or carrying. I like technology but I don’t have to race out to get the newest phone if mine is still working okay. I drove around in my last car for well over a year when it alternated between the AC and heater not working.
The reason for some of this is that I am extremely frugal. Life as a single mom dictated that lifestyle for many years. Thankfully, I’m in a position where I can loosen the purse strings a bit now. Let’s be realistic, I could hit the Powerball tonight and you’ll still find me checking the Target end-caps for the clearance items and shopping at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for the best deals though. I love a bargain. That being said, the first two items on my Favorites list this time are definitely splurges from my awesome boys.
The Purple Harmony Pillow
I don’t remember how I first heard about the Purple Mattress store. Making a decision to walk into that store though was probably a mistake. Their mattresses are amazing…and expensive! I will own one someday but I have to pay off a new (to me) car and AC/furnace before that splurge.
As I mentioned earlier, one thing I am a bit of a snob about is pillows. I’d had a really nice memory foam/cooling pillow that I’d gotten from Sam’s club about 5 years ago but when it came time to replace it I couldn’t find anything similar. Fast forward to my visit to the Purple store. Their pillows were crazy comfortable…and expensive!! Noticing a theme with this store?
I had nearly talked myself into buying one of their pillows back in March. As I was debating aloud with myself whether I could justify a $200 pillow (I know, right? I heard some of you gasp!), Nick pointed out to me that items relating to my health and wellness are the things I should be spending money on. I raised some smart boys. Unfortunately, my car decided to die that weekend so my pillow splurge had to be postponed.
When the boys asked me for a Christmas list, I put the pillow and an equally expensive leather office chair I’d been looking at on my list for them and told them to go in together and buy one of them for me. The little punks bought both instead of one. More on that later.
This pillow is amazing. I don’t know all the science behind it, something about a honeycomb-patterned grid, and moisture-wicking mesh material, and pressure relief. What I’m going to tell you is that it stays cool all night long and it is extremely comfortable! Both boys agreed when they they tried it out Christmas day.
Realspace® Modern Comfort Winsley Bonded Leather Mid-Back Manager’s Chair
Love this office chair. This was the second item I suggested the boys go in together and get me for Christmas. I loved the chair and the pillow but the idea was for them to choose one not both. They don’t follow directions well but I appreciate that they want to spoil me. This chair looks nice and is super comfortable.
One of the items on my 50 Before 50 list this year was to make a personalized calendar for myself. My friend Amy makes one of her family every year and I thought it was a great idea. My calendar cost about $25 and I absolutely love it. I think it turned out really well for my first attempt. It was a little trickier than I thought it would be but that’s primarily because I was trying to put it together on my phone since that’s where all my pictures are.
Pilot® G2 Retractable Gel Ink Pens
I have a bit of an addiction for colored gel pens. The Pilot brand G2 gel ink pens are the best…and it’s not just me saying so, Nick agrees with me. I bought some more for myself this year and Nick got me some limited edition special colored pens as well so hopefully I’m set for the year. I keep some on my nightstand, in my office, my purse, and my laptop bag. You never know when you’re going to need a good pen.
Share some of your favorites with me. Anyone get some good stuff for Christmas they want to share?
