Wow! It’s been over 2 months since I posted last. I know I decided that I wasn’t setting a certain number of blog posts to write this year, but I really didn’t intend on ignoring it quite this long. I’d like to say that it’s been neglected because I’ve been cranking out other great writing projects but sadly that’s not the case.
The good news is that I took a fabulous, much-needed cruise last month. I didn’t even realize how much I needed the break. I don’t talk politics on this blog and I’ll delete any political comments but the world in general seems like a bit of a dumpster fire right now. The general unhappiness and and fear has trickled down I think even to my smaller community and people are just terrible to each other right now.
I’d like to think I’m not being terrible to people but my mental well-being is not good right now. I’ve taken an intentional step back from social media. (I know…shocker!! LOL). I’m still going to throw some funny memes out there and pics of my gorgeous boys but I can’t deal with the rest. It doesn’t matter if it’s politics, religion, or sports…I can’t deal with the negativity.
The Plan
Mel Robbins is one of my favorite motivational speakers and her new book, The Let Them Theory, encourages you to stop wasting energy on things you can’t control and focus on what really matters and you can control and that’s yourself. Disclaimer: I started the book and had to turn it back into the library before I could finish it but I’m sure when I get it back and finish it that you’ll see a more in-depth review of this. My cheap butt may just have to go buy this one since there’s 114 people ahead of me for the actual book and 422 ahead of me for the audio version at my library.
Sooo…I can’t control how people are treating each other right now. It’s time to dig myself out of this funk. Stepping back from social media has helped a little already I think. I’m slowly feeling like I can start writing again. And if you’re reading this then I’ve at least taken a baby step back to writing. A couple of shots in my bum shoulder and and an adjustment to my thyroid medicine is hopefully going to help me get back to being active again. I miss the gym.
Since we’re almost through the first quarter of the year, I figured it’s a good time to check in on my 2025 intentions also.
The Good
I’m ahead of schedule on my reading goal. I’ve read 17 books so far this year and I’m working on 3 others. I’m not really sure what’s going on there, lol, I’m usually a one book at a time type of girl. Another sign I’m in a serious funk I guess.
I’ve been doing good about getting at least 7 hours of a sleep tonight. Don’t usually get the 8 hours but I blame that on all the good television right now and way too many 10 pm shows that I watch.
Finally got rid of the bed frame in my reading/writing nook I’m trying to create. And I finally took down my Christmas tree so the papasan chair can go back into my living room. Hey…don’t judge me…I didn’t put the thing up until a week before Christmas.
Definitely spent more than I expected too on this cruise but it was worth every penny. Things have been quite busy playing catch up at the office so that’s helped with not being out and about spending money. I’ve had a lot of doctors appointments and copays and prescriptions the last few weeks but that should be over now too. Still on track to pay off my student loans this August!
The Not So Good
This funky mood/depression has definitely created some writer’s block. Focusing on this now. It’s like anything else, I need to prioritize it, and make it happen. As one of my favorite authors (Jodi Picoult) said: “You might not write well every day, but you can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page.”
Health issues have kept me from the gym but like I said earlier, hopefully I’m on the mend now and I’m easing back into the gym this week.
Haven’t gotten those quotes on the home improvement projects yet. Building the reserves back up after vacation but I hope to start scheduling some quotes in April.
I feel very fortunate that I’ve never really struggled with hard-core depression. It’s such a problem for so many people and I know how lucky I am that I can usually realize my issues are just a temporary problem and pull myself out of my feelings pretty quickly. Even at my worse when Rick died, I certainly felt helpless then, but it was never a case that I couldn’t see a way out or make a plan. If you’re someone that struggles more, I hope you’re comfortable talking to someone or getting medicine to help.
